Dhaka: The UK High Commission in Bangladesh has issued a fresh migration alert, urging Bangladeshis to remain cautious of fraudulent offers promising “guaranteed visas” or jobs in the United Kingdom.
In a statement posted on its verified Facebook page on April 21, the High Commission warned that incidents of false claims related to UK visas are on the rise in Bangladesh. Scammers are increasingly luring individuals with assurances of confirmed visas or employment opportunities, often leading to financial loss and exploitation.
The mission advised applicants to verify all visa-related information through official sources, particularly the UK government’s website. It also encouraged individuals to report suspected visa fraud via email at [email protected], with the option to remain anonymous.
Earlier, the British authorities had cautioned that anyone attempting to enter the UK using forged documents or illegal means could face a travel ban of up to 10 years. The move is part of the UK’s broader effort to combat visa fraud and irregular migration.
The warning comes amid growing international concern over migration-related scams. On April 8, diplomatic missions of 13 Western countries—including Canada, Germany, and the UK—jointly issued a statement highlighting the risks of visa fraud and urging applicants to ensure the authenticity of documents and follow proper procedures.
According to migration experts at BRAC, fraudulent schemes targeting aspiring migrants have been increasing. Many victims are enticed with promises of jobs in Europe, Canada, Australia, or the UK. In some cases, human trafficking networks have taken individuals to countries like Nepal under false pretenses and later held them hostage for ransom.
Reports also indicate that some victims are forced into cyber scam operations abroad or subjected to abuse in transit countries such as Libya after being promised safe passage to Europe.
Authorities and migration experts stress the importance of transparency and verification. Prospective migrants are strongly advised to consult trusted sources, discuss plans with family members, and thoroughly verify before pursuing overseas opportunities.
