Chattogram : Shah Amanat International Airport of Chattogram is opening Covid Lab in January 2022. Already works are underway to set up the Covid lab at the airport while the infrastructure construction works are complete, said the Health Engineering Department.
Four institutions approved by the health department on December 4 are setting up the Covid Lab at Chattogram Airport. These institutions are Chattogram's Chevron Laboratory Ltd, Dhaka's Labaid Ltd, Dhaka's Prescription Point and Cumilla's Modern Hospital Private Ltd.
Once the setup is complete, the lab will be opened for operation in January, 2022.
This will allow UAE-bound passengers to reach their destinations from Chattogram. Till now, Middle East bound passengers were having to travel from Dhaka Airport which was causing added pressure for the capital's international airport as it is going through runway closure at night due to construction work of the Third Terminal.
As a result, passengers were also suffering as the airport was having difficulties to handle so many passengers in 16 hours only instead of previous 24.
Chattogram's Health Engineering Department's Chief Engineer Md Mohsin said, they have finished the infrastructure work to set up Covid lab at the airport and handed it over to the airport's authorities. Now the approved institutions will set up the lab there, he added.
He further mentioned, outside the airport building, they have set up a reception. However, collection of samples and tests will be carried out inside the airport building.
