Dhaka : Africa's largest carrier Ethiopian Airlines has announced the launch of direct flight services to and from Dhaka, effective November 1, 2024, according to reports.
The flag carrier of Ethiopia will be operating six weekly flights between Addis Ababa and Dhaka with ultramodern Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
About the development, Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO, Ethiopian Airlines, said, "Bangladesh is a dynamic and growing market, and we are confident that our modern fleet and exceptional service will meet the needs of travellers between the two regions."
Reports further cited Tasew saying, "By deploying our state-of-the-art aircraft on this route, we are not only offering our passengers the comfort they deserve but also fostering stronger ties between Africa and Asia,"
"Our new service to Dhaka is a testament to Ethiopian Airlines' enduring vision of expanding horizons and creating bridges across continents," further informed the Group CEO.
With Dhaka joining Ethiopian Airlines' vibrant South Asian network, which includes Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Karachi, the airline continues to expand its reach in the region.
Hence, with the move, Ethiopian Airlines will be enhancing its footprint in South Asia, offering convenient connections between Bangladesh and key destinations across Africa and beyond.
Ethiopian Airlines already boasts the most extensive network in Africa, with over 63 destinations, and this expansion further solidifies its role in connecting the two continents.
Furthermore, the flights will provide passengers with seamless access to Ethiopian Airlines' global network, covering nearly 140 destinations worldwide.
The flights are strategically scheduled for convenient departures from Addis Ababa and arrivals in Dhaka, ensuring easy connections and a seamless travel experience for passengers.
On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, the airline's flights will depart Dhaka at 02:55 pm and reach Addis Ababa at 08:00 pm while on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, the flights will leave Dhaka at 09:40 am and arrive in Addis Ababa at 14:45 pm. All times are local.
The launch of the Addis Ababa-Dhaka route is expected to significantly strengthen socio-economic ties between Bangladesh and Ethiopia while further bridging Asia and Africa, said reports.
