Dhaka: In a move to address evolving aviation security challenges, Bangladesh has completed a specialized training program aimed at strengthening airport safety and aligning it with international standards.

The “Airport Security Manager Course–25,” held at the Civil Aviation Academy of Bangladesh, concluded on April 28 with a certificate awarding ceremony attended by senior officials and participants from various government and private organizations.

The course, which began on April 12, focused on enhancing the capacity of officials responsible for airport security management amid growing global concerns over aviation threats, read a press release.

Experts say such initiative comes at a critical time, as airports face increasing risks ranging from unauthorized access and smuggling to more sophisticated threats like explosives and cyber vulnerabilities.

Participants received hands-on training in key security areas, including threat identification, risk assessment, passenger and cargo screening, X-ray image analysis, and explosive detection techniques.

The program also emphasized compliance with international aviation security regulations set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The training was led by aviation specialists, including the academy's Chairman Prashanta Kumar Chakraborty, an ICAO-certified instructor.

Speaking at the event, Chief Guest Asif Iqbal, Member (Security) of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), stressed that strengthening human capacity is essential to face emerging security threats at airports.

Officials noted that improving professional efficiency and adopting modern security practices are key to preventing breaches and ensuring passenger safety, especially as Bangladesh expands its aviation infrastructure and passenger traffic grows.

Authorities expressed hope that the trained staff will play a crucial role in reinforcing airport security nationwide and effectively implementing ICAO standards in the coming years.
