Dhaka: A young man was detained on April 28 after breaching security and entering a restricted runway-adjacent area through the domestic terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The incident took place at approximately 6:15am, according to airport sources. The individual managed to cross security barriers and reached near the apron area, which is strictly prohibited for unauthorized persons.
The detainee has been identified as Ferdous, a 22-year-old resident of Meherpur District. During initial questioning, he told authorities that he had come to the airport to receive his uncle. Due to a delay in the flight, he claimed he wandered toward the runway area to watch aircraft, apparently without facing any obstacle along the way.
Airport officials confirmed that no passengers or unauthorized individuals are allowed to enter the apron or runway zones. After his detention, Ferdous was sent to a magistrate court for further legal proceedings.
HSIA's Executive Director Ragib Samad stated that the man entered through a domestic terminal gate and was able to reach the apron area before being apprehended.
The incident occurred just a day after security was tightened at major airports across Bangladesh, including Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, following a nationwide alert over potential threats to key installations.
