SIA A380 withdrawn from these 11 routes

Dhaka: Singapore Airlines (SIA) has withdrawn its Airbus A380 superjumbo from 11 routes, according to an analysis of Cirium Diio data spanning 19 years of operations. The carrier remains a significant A380 operator, with 12 of the double-deck wide-bodies, each configured with 471 seats across four cabins.

SIA was the launch customer for the A380, receiving its first example in October 2007. Since then, it has accumulated thousands of departures on numerous routes before gradually scaling back the type's network.

Tokyo Narita topped the list of dropped destinations with 3,923 departures, having been served between 2008 and 2020 and again in 2024 and 2025. Zurich followed with 3,649 departures between 2010 and 2020, reflecting its status as a premium-demand hub. Paris CDG ranked third with 3,506 departures, while New York JFK via Frankfurt saw 3,314 departures between 2012 and 2023.

Other withdrawn destinations include Los Angeles via Tokyo Narita, Osaka Kansai, San Francisco via Hong Kong, Beijing Capital, Kuala Lumpur, Nagoya, and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi. Notably, the Singapore–Kuala Lumpur service, covering just 296 kilometers, was the shortest-ever commercial A380 service globally, operated briefly for crew training purposes ahead of a service reentry.

Melbourne, however, has bucked the trend. The Australian city was initially dropped from the A380 network but welcomed the type back on March 29. The reversal came after SIA shelved plans to redeploy the aircraft to Dubai, citing reduced demand stemming from the war in Iran and its regional impact.

The A380 is currently scheduled to serve Melbourne until October 24, after which it is expected to be redeployed to Dubai. However, the airline has flagged that the arrangement remains subject to change.

Each of SIA's 12 remaining A380s features six first-class suites, 78 business-class, 44 premium economy, and 343 economy seats.
