Dhaka: Bengal Airlift Limited has expanded Bangladesh’s aviation landscape by introducing RwandAir (WB), the national carrier of Rwanda, to the local market. Effective September 15, the airline’s flights are now available for booking through all major Global Distribution Systems (GDS) and the IATA Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP), enabling seamless ticketing for travel agents and passengers.
The move marks a new chapter in connectivity between Bangladesh and Africa. With RwandAir’s entry, local passengers will have easier access to destinations across the continent, while agents can now issue tickets and manage settlements via IATA’s global standards.
Founded in 2002, RwandAir has grown into one of Africa’s most dynamic carriers, operating a modern fleet of Boeing and Airbus aircraft from its Kigali hub. The airline flies to more than 25 destinations in East, Central, West and Southern Africa, including Johannesburg, Nairobi, Lagos, Accra and Lusaka. Its strategic location positions Kigali as a bridge linking Africa with the Middle East, Europe and Asia.
For Bangladeshi travelers, this development offers new one-stop connections to markets previously underserved from Dhaka. Business leaders, aid workers, students and tourists alike are expected to benefit as commercial ties between Bangladesh and Africa deepen in garments, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and light manufacturing.
RwandAir’s growing global profile is reinforced by its codeshare partnership with Qatar Airways. This collaboration allows passengers to combine itineraries through Kigali and Doha, creating smooth links not only to Africa but also onward to Europe and North America. Aviation analysts suggest this could make Kigali a rising transit hub for Asia-Africa traffic.
As RwandAir’s General Sales Agent (GSA) in Bangladesh, Bengal Airlift Limited will lead the airline’s marketing, training and customer support initiatives. Established in 1982, Bengal Airlift has decades of experience representing international carriers and is credited with pioneering many aspects of aviation services in the country.
