Dhaka: Flight operations at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport were disrupted for nearly four hours on Sunday morning as dense fog sharply reduced visibility, preventing both takeoffs and landings. During this time, at least eight flights were temporarily diverted to other destinations.
Airport Executive Director Group Captain SM Ragib Samad said the airport was not officially closed, but operations were suspended due to safety concerns.
“From 6:00 am onwards, visibility dropped to zero. No aircraft could take off or land,” he said, adding that flight operations resumed at 9:52 am once conditions improved. Both takeoffs and landings have since returned to regular schedules.
Among the diverted flights, six went to Sylhet Osmani International Airport, while one was rerouted to Kolkata Airport in India and another to Hanoi Airport in Vietnam.
The authority expressed gratitude to passengers and stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during the temporary disruption.
