Dhaka: Science and Technology Adviser and Adviser to the Ministry of Finance Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed on Friday, January 16, visited the construction site of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) in Ishwardi, Pabna, to review the progress of Bangladesh’s first nuclear power project.
During the visit, Dr. Ahmed inspected the ongoing construction work on the ground and exchanged views with project officials. He sought detailed updates on the progress at different stages of implementation and reviewed the current status of construction activities.
The adviser also interacted with engineers and workers engaged in the project and praised their relentless efforts in advancing the landmark initiative.

Expressing optimism about the project, Dr. Ahmed said the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant would play a transformative role in the national power sector as Bangladesh’s first nuclear facility. He noted that once operational, the project would significantly contribute to meeting the country’s growing electricity demand while strengthening energy security and supporting sustainable development goals.
The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is one of the government’s mega projects and is being constructed in compliance with all international safety standards and regulations. Officials expect nuclear fuel loading activities to begin in the near future.
Senior government officials present during the visit included Cabinet Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid and Finance Division Secretary Dr. Md. Khairuzzaman Majumder.
