Qatar Airways adds Toronto to its network

Doha: Qatar Airways is set to begin flying to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) starting on December 11, 2024, with three weekly non-stop flights from Doha’s Hamad International Airport (DOH).

Toronto is Qatar Airways’ 14th destination in the Americas, and only the carrier’s second route to Canada, complementing existing daily service to Montreal (YUL). The Toronto area of course has an incredibly international population, so this new route will provide one-stop service to all kinds of destinations in the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent, Africa, and more.

Qatar Airways Group CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer said: “The Toronto route is a strong and continued commitment to providing Qatar Airways’ Canadian customers with the enhanced connectivity they deserve, as well as access to our industry-leading service and Qsuite in-flight product.”

“The addition of a 14th gateway to our Americas network is also a testament to our commitment to maintaining a significant presence in the local market and confirms our reputation as a trusted global connector,” he said.

Qatar Airways flies to more than 170 destinations worldwide, with connections via its hub in Doha, Hamad International Airport (DOH).

Earlier this week, Qatar Airways Group announced plans to strengthen its partnership with Virgin Australia by acquiring a 25 percent minority stake in Virgin Australia from Bain Capital. While the deal is subject to Australian government approval, the strategic investment will fuel competition in the Australian aviation sector.

The partnership will enable Virgin Australia to launch flights from Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney to Doha, seamlessly connecting with Qatar Airways’ global network, the airline said in a statement. The proposed wet lease services (leasing an aircraft and essential operational personnel) will commence in mid-2025. Virgin Group and Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) will remain shareholders in Virgin Australia.
