Dhaka : Bangladeshi travel content creator Salahuddin Sumon has reached Antarctica, marking a significant milestone for the country's travel storytelling community. He was accompanied by fellow traveler Nilay Kumar Biswas on the expedition to the world's coldest continent.
The journey began from Ushuaia, widely known as the southernmost city in the world. From there, the duo sailed across the Southern Ocean aboard an expedition vessel operated by Dutch company Oceanwide Expeditions.
After arriving, they explored parts of the Antarctic Peninsula and nearby islands, witnessing towering glaciers, snow-covered mountains, and vast icy shorelines. Often described as Earth's last great wilderness, Antarctica's untouched landscapes left the travelers in awe.
Before reaching the continent, Sumon and Nilay also visited the remote Falkland Islands and South Georgia. The regions are known for dramatic scenery and rich wildlife, including large colonies of penguins, seals and seabirds.
The expedition received corporate backing, with Turkish Airlines serving as title sponsor and Dot Internet acting as the leading sponsor.
Sumon said reaching Antarctica had long been a dream and that he is excited to share the experience with Bangladeshi audiences through videos on his Facebook and YouTube platforms. Nilay described Antarctica as the ultimate destination for travelers and said achieving the journey at the age of 27 was a proud moment.
Traveling to Antarctica is widely regarded as one of the most challenging and expensive expeditions in the world, making their achievement particularly noteworthy.
