Bangladesh, Algeria explore shipbuilding, trade cooperation

Dhaka: Bangladesh and Algeria have discussed expanding bilateral trade and investment, with shipbuilding, maritime shipping, and pharmaceuticals emerging as potential areas of cooperation.

The issues were discussed during a meeting between State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir and Algerian Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdelouahab Saidani at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on September 20.

Both sides discussed ways to strengthen economic ties, including cooperation in shipbuilding, maritime shipping lines, energy, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and fertilizer, according to a press release from the Foreign Ministry.

The Algerian ambassador expressed his country's interest in enhancing cooperation in shipbuilding and maritime shipping, alongside energy, pharmaceuticals, and fertilizer.

Kobir reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between the two countries and called for stronger collaboration in the energy sector to help ensure Bangladesh's long-term energy security.

He also stressed the importance of cooperation in fertilizer to safeguard food security, while underscoring the need for greater people-to-people contact and high-level visits to deepen bilateral relations.

The meeting also explored opportunities to boost trade and investment between the two countries.
