Bangladesh Embassy in Hague highlights cultural heritage through Nazrul’s music and poetry

Dhaka: An evening of music and poetry celebrating the works of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was organised by the Bangladesh Embassy in Netherlands as part of the ongoing “Nazrul Year” 2026–27, highlighting Bangladesh’s rich cultural heritage and its potential to attract cultural tourists.

The programme featured soulful renditions of Nazrul Sangeet, along with recitations of the poet’s works by artistes from Bangladesh and members of the expatriate community. The event offered the local audience an opportunity to experience the musical and literary traditions associated with one of Bangladesh’s most influential cultural figures.

The Embassy expressed particular gratitude to Dr Asit Roy and Dr Podminee Dey of Rajshahi University for presenting the romantic and spiritual music of Kazi Nazrul Islam to the local audience.

The celebration also underscored the role of cultural diplomacy in introducing Bangladesh’s literary, musical and artistic traditions to international audiences. Events centred on Nazrul’s works can contribute to greater interest in Bangladesh’s cultural heritage, creating opportunities for cultural tourism and heritage-based travel.

Kazi Nazrul Islam’s music and poetry remain deeply embedded in Bangladesh’s cultural identity, while his themes of love, spirituality, equality and humanism continue to resonate with audiences beyond the country’s borders.
