Bangladesh rises in passport ranking despite fewer visa-free destinations
Dhaka: Bangladesh has
climbed three places to 97th in the latest Henley Passport Index,
but its passport holders now enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to fewer
countries than before.
According to the latest
ranking published by London-based citizenship advisory firm Henley and
Partners, Bangladeshi passport holders can currently travel to 35 destinations
without obtaining a visa in advance, either through visa-free entry or
visa-on-arrival facilities.
The figure has declined
from 37 destinations at the beginning of 2026 after two countries withdrew the
privilege. The downward trend has continued over the past few years, with
Bangladeshis having access to 39 destinations in early 2025 and 42 in early
2024.
Despite the reduction in
travel access, Bangladesh's overall ranking improved to 97th due to changes in
the global standings.
Singapore retained its
position as the world's most powerful passport, offering visa-free or
visa-on-arrival access to 192 destinations worldwide. Afghanistan remained at
the bottom of the index, with access to just 22 destinations.
The Henley Passport Index
ranks passports based on the number of destinations their holders can visit
without obtaining a visa before departure. The latest edition evaluated 199
passports against 227 travel destinations worldwide.
