Biman’s stranded Rome flight reaches Dhaka
Flight BG-306 landed
safely at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 12:30 pm, Biman
Public Relations Officer Bosra Islam said.
The Boeing 787-9
Dreamliner departed Rome’s Fiumicino Airport at 11:00 pm local time on August 8
(3:00 am BST on August 9) after the aircraft was repaired and cleared following
the necessary technical and safety checks, Biman officials said.
The aircraft had been
grounded at Fiumicino after developing a technical problem, disrupting the
scheduled service and leaving passengers stranded in the Italian capital.
To resolve the problem,
Biman on Saturday sent a team of engineers and necessary spare parts to Rome
aboard flight BG-305. After completing the repairs, the aircraft underwent
technical and safety inspections before receiving clearance to resume its
journey to Dhaka.
State Minister for Civil
Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat said on August 8 that around 100
affected passengers had been shifted to hotels in Rome, while the remaining
passengers were accommodated in the airport lounge.
He said special
arrangements were made for sick and elderly passengers, as well as women and
children, with necessary medicines also provided.
Throughout the
disruption, Biman provided affected passengers with hotel accommodation, meals,
and other necessary assistance.
