Biman to sign Airbus deal in October, latest Boeing jets to cost USD 2.7b
“Yes, we are buying 10
Airbus aircraft. Inshallah, the agreement will be signed in October,” he told
journalists at the Secretariat.
The proposed Airbus
package includes four A350-900 widebody aircraft and six A321neo narrowbody
jets. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2033 and continue through 2036 or
2037.
Millat said Biman was
also seeking to lease 10 aircraft to meet immediate demand but had yet to
secure them.
Meanwhile, the minister
said the 11 additional Boeing aircraft ordered in September would cost around USD
2.7 billion, with payments to be made as the aircraft are delivered.
The latest Boeing deal
followed an earlier agreement signed in April for 14 aircraft. Together, the
two deals cover 25 Boeing aircraft, including 13 Boeing 787-10s, two 787-9s and
10 Boeing 737-8s.
The first aircraft under
the Boeing agreements is scheduled for delivery in 2031, while Biman has sought
to receive at least one aircraft earlier, possibly in 2027 or 2028.
The Airbus purchase would
take Biman's planned new-aircraft pipeline to 35, comprising 19 widebody and 16
narrowbody aircraft.
