Emirates leads global airlines in international capacity for August

Dhaka: Emirates has ranked first among global carriers for international capacity in August, offering well over 31 billion available seat kilometers (ASKs), according to data from aviation analytics firm OAG.

The Dubai-based airline's international capacity was around 21 percent higher than second-placed Ryanair, which logged approximately 25.7 billion ASKs during the month.

ASKs, a widely used measure of airline capacity, are calculated by multiplying the number of seats available for sale by the distance flown.

United Airlines came in third globally with about 22.8 billion ASKs, trailed by Turkish Airlines with roughly 21.5 billion. Qatar Airways took fifth spot with around 21 billion ASKs, while Delta Air Lines ranked sixth with approximately 17 billion.

British Airways followed in seventh with 15.9 billion ASKs, ahead of American Airlines at about 15.7 billion. Air France placed ninth with a comparable capacity figure, while Lufthansa rounded out the top 10 with roughly 15.3 billion ASKs.

The figures show Emirates, which runs an extensive long-haul network through its Dubai hub, holding a considerable lead over other international carriers in deployed capacity during the month.

The ASK metric especially highlights the scale of long-haul operations, since it accounts for both the number of available seats and the distance covered.

The ranking arrives as Dubai's aviation sector continues to recover from disruption caused by the war between the US/Israel and Iran. UAE carriers have been rebuilding international capacity as passenger demand steadily returns across major markets.
