Emirates surpasses one million pharma shipments through Dubai in 10 years

Dubai: Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo division of Emirates, is marking several major milestones in the transportation of time- and temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products through Dubai.
The air cargo carrier is celebrating a decade of investment in world-class pharmaceutical logistics since September 2016, when it launched its specialised Pharma product and unveiled its dedicated, GDP (Good Distribution Practice)-certified pharma handling hub in Dubai. The facility ensures the highest standards of quality and temperature-controlled handling throughout the transportation process.
Since the launch of Pharma, Emirates SkyCargo has transported more than one million pharmaceutical shipments, equivalent to over 800,000 tonnes of pharma cargo, connecting pharmaceutical manufacturers, healthcare providers and patients across six continents.
The milestone highlights Emirates SkyCargo’s leading capabilities in pharmaceutical logistics, as well as Dubai’s emergence as a prominent global hub for the rapid and seamless transportation of temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products.
Today, Emirates SkyCargo’s Dubai hub offers more than 16,500 square metres of GDP-certified handling and storage facilities across Dubai International (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC). It is also supported by a dedicated fleet of more than 55 cool dollies for pharmaceutical cargo. These mobile, temperature-controlled containers help maintain the required temperature of shipments during transfers between the aircraft and terminal, as well as during quick ramp transfers between two aircraft.
On average, Emirates SkyCargo transports between 1.5 and 2 million kilograms of pharmaceutical products every week across its global network.
