Etihad to operate Gothenburg route year-round amid strong demand
Dhaka: Etihad Airways has
decided to make its new Abu Dhabi-Gothenburg service a year-round route after
receiving stronger-than-expected bookings shortly after announcing the
connection.
The airline initially
planned to operate the Gothenburg service only during the winter season, from
December 17, 2026, to March 21, 2027. It will now continue beyond that period,
with the carrier citing strong demand from travelers in western Sweden and
passengers from its wider global network.
The new route is expected
to connect western Sweden with Abu Dhabi as well as Etihad’s destinations
across Asia and the Indian subcontinent. Travelers from the airline’s network
will also gain easier access to Gothenburg and Sweden’s west coast.
Etihad Chief Revenue and
Commercial Officer Arik De said the early booking response showed that the
airline had underestimated demand for the route.
The service will begin with
four weekly flights using Airbus A321LR aircraft, featuring two First Suites,
14 Business Class seats and 144 Economy seats.
Gothenburg is the 15th
new destination Etihad has added in 2026. The airline said the A321LR allows it
to introduce long-haul services to new markets with suitable capacity and
operating economics.
The route is scheduled to
launch on December 17, 2026.
