Swiss Embassy hails Bangladesh's football passion after World Cup watch party

Dhaka: The Embassy of Switzerland in Dhaka has praised Bangladesh's extraordinary love for football after joining thousands of local fans to watch the FIFA World Cup quarterfinal between Switzerland and Argentina at a public viewing event on the morning of July 12.
In a social media post, the embassy described Bangladesh's football culture as exceptional, saying, "Bangladesh's passion for football is extraordinary."
The Swiss mission noted that the enthusiasm displayed by Bangladeshi supporters once again demonstrated how football transcends borders and brings people together.
"The morning once again showed that football unites people," the embassy said, adding that Bangladesh is home to more Argentina supporters than Argentina has inhabitants.
The embassy team joined football fans at the event hosted by Daffodil International University to watch the Switzerland-Argentina quarterfinal.
Congratulating Argentina on its victory and qualification for the World Cup semifinals, the embassy also thanked Daffodil International University for hosting what it described as a memorable event.
