Trump to Tarique: ‘Boeing will not let you down’ after Bangladesh aircraft purchase

Dhaka: US President Donald Trump has thanked Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for the decision to purchase Boeing aircraft, assuring him that the US aircraft manufacturer “will not let you down."

In a letter on August 31, Trump said he had received Tarique Rahman’s letter regarding the purchase of Boeing aircraft and appreciated Bangladesh’s decision.

“I just received your letter concerning the purchase of Boeing Aircraft, and very much appreciate your decision of purchase. Boeing will not let you down, and I will not forget,” Trump wrote.

He also thanked the prime minister for his attention to the matter and said, “I look forward to meeting you in the not too distant future.”

The letter comes amid Bangladesh’s ongoing move to expand and modernize the fleet of national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines through the purchase of Boeing aircraft.

Biman signed a USD 3.7 billion agreement with Boeing in April to purchase 14 aircraft, described as the airline’s largest-ever aircraft order.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs Sergio Gor said on August 30 that Bangladesh had committed billions of dollars to purchase additional Boeing aircraft, significantly increasing its initial order. However, he did not disclose the number of additional aircraft or the value of the expanded commitment.

Trump’s letter, however, does not specify the number of aircraft or the financial value of the purchase to which he was referring.

In the concluding part of the letter, Trump conveyed his “warmest regards and love” to the people of Bangladesh, saying they had “been through much” and expressing confidence that Bangladesh and its people would have a “very bright future” under Tarique Rahman’s leadership.
