US envoy visits Parbatipur railway workshop, highlights American locomotives

Dhaka: U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen has visited Bangladesh Railway’s Central Locomotive Workshop in Parbatipur, where Bangladeshi technicians maintain American-made locomotives used for passenger and freight transportation across the country.
During his visit on September 1, Ambassador Christensen toured the workshop, viewed a locomotive manufactured by U.S.-based Progress Rail, and met Bangladeshi railway professionals responsible for maintaining the locomotives, according to a statement from the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka.
The ambassador later travelled by train to Saidpur, where he spoke with passengers before visiting the historic Saidpur Railway Workshop and Museum.
Bangladesh Railway’s purchase of 40 Progress Rail locomotives demonstrates how U.S. exports and technology can contribute to Bangladesh’s infrastructure and development priorities, the embassy said.
The visit also highlighted the practical and long-term value of expanding trade and commercial cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States, it added.
