Safran expands landing gear MRO site in Singapore
Dhaka: Safran Landing Systems inaugurated an extension to its Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) center in Singapore on September 22, in a ceremony attended by French Ambassador to Singapore Stephen Marchisio and Singapore Economic Development Board Executive Vice President Cindy Koh.
Olivier Thomas, MRO Executive Vice President of Safran Landing Systems, also attended the event alongside industry partners and customers.
The USD 22 million project, backed by the Singapore Economic Development Board, adds a 7,500-square-meter facility with a new assembly line dedicated to landing gear overhauls. The expansion increases capacity and flexibility for major aircraft fleets operated across the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions.
Established in 1979, the Singapore facility has served as Safran Landing Systems' key regional hub and has partnered with SIA Engineering Company since 2000.
The site offers full MRO services, covering disassembly, inspection, machining, surface treatment, assembly, and final certification for landing systems used on the Airbus A320 family, A330, A350, and A380, as well as Boeing 737 and 787 aircraft, plus ATR regional planes.
Around 360 people currently work at the facility, and the expansion is projected to add close to 100 jobs by 2030, alongside continued investment in staff training.
The new building also incorporates 800 solar panels spanning 2,800 square meters, energy-efficient LED lighting, and improved cooling systems, aimed at cutting emissions and boosting worker comfort.
The solar setup is expected to supply roughly 60% of the site's electricity needs from renewable sources.
Safran Landing Systems CEO François Bastin said the milestone reflected years of effort by the company's teams, partners, and the local community, calling it a sign of continued confidence in the region and a deeper commitment to supporting airline customers with high standards of quality and sustainability.
Cindy Koh of the Singapore Economic Development Board said the expansion brings advanced repair technology to the country and strengthens its broader MRO capabilities, adding that the board looks forward to collaborating with Safran on next-generation aerospace technology and job creation for Singaporeans.
