UK-backed AVSEC supervisors training concludes at HSIA

Dhaka: The UK Department for Transport (DfT) has completed an Aviation Security Supervisor Training program at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, organized under the initiative of the British High Commission in Bangladesh.

The five-working-day course, coordinated by the Aviation Security (AVSEC) Division of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), was attended by AVSEC supervisors and officials from airports across the country.

UK-based trainers covered a range of critical aviation security topics, focusing on evolving security risks, supervisory capability building, and strengthening effective security management practices.

Air Commodore Md. Asif Iqbal, Member (Security) at CAAB, attended the closing ceremony as Chief Guest on August 27, while Ryan Duncanson, Counsellor at the British High Commission in Dhaka, was present as Special Guest.

Officials from the DfT, the British High Commission, and CAAB also attended the event.

Air Commodore Iqbal thanked the British High Commission and DfT officials for organizing the training, calling it an important step in regularly enhancing the knowledge and preparedness of aviation security personnel.

He said effective aviation security depends on close coordination among relevant agencies and a strong overall security culture.

Iqbal added that alongside security at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, efforts should also focus on improving passenger services and ensuring smoother passenger movement through the airport.

In his remarks, Duncanson underlined the value of continued cooperation between Bangladesh and the United Kingdom on aviation security matters.

He congratulated the participants on completing the course and said the British government remains interested in supporting further capacity-building training for Bangladesh's aviation security sector.

Certificates were distributed to the trainees at the closing ceremony, marking the formal conclusion of the program.
