Airbus A320s back in service after recall

Dhaka:  Airbus’ recall of about 6,000 A320 jets on 29 November 2025 has largely been resolved, with most aircraft now repaired and back in service.

The recall followed a 30 October incident in which a JetBlue A320 flying between the United States and Mexico suffered a sharp altitude drop and diverted to Tampa, injuring 15 passengers.

Investigators traced the problem to a software glitch in the onboard computer, caused by solar radiation corrupting elevation data.

Airbus said 6,000 aircraft required maintenance, though a two-hour software rollback fixed the issue on the majority.

By Saturday, more than 5,000 jets had been updated, according to French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot. Around 100 aircraft still need the software fix, while 900 older jets require full computer replacements and will remain grounded, potentially disrupting global schedules.

U.S. carriers including American Airlines, Delta, JetBlue and United, along with major operators such as China Eastern, EasyJet and Lufthansa, were among those affected.

American Airlines said all 209 of its impacted aircraft had been updated with no further operational impact expected for the busy Thanksgiving travel period.

The timeline for returning the remaining 900 jets to service depends on engineer availability and spare-parts supply, Airbus said.
