Lufthansa introduces centennial livery

Dhaka: German flag carrier Lufthansa has introduced a special livery on a new Boeing 787-9 aircraft to mark its upcoming 100th anniversary in 2026.

The aircraft, bearing the registration D-ABPU, was recently painted at Boeing’s facility in Charleston, South Carolina.

It is expected to be delivered to Lufthansa’s Frankfurt hub in November, with entry into commercial service scheduled for December.

The centennial livery forms part of a broader campaign to commemorate the airline’s founding in 1926.

The design features a blue fuselage with a white crane—Lufthansa’s iconic symbol since 1918—its wings blending into those of the aircraft. Additional anniversary markings include the numerals “100”, the years “1926 / 2026”, and a logo on the underside of the fuselage.

Lufthansa CEO Jens Ritter said the livery reflects the airline’s enduring values of safety, pioneering spirit, quality, freedom, and reliability, while honouring the contributions of its employees.

The specially liveried 787-9, equipped with Lufthansa’s new Allegris interior, will serve as a “flying ambassador”, carrying the centennial message worldwide throughout the anniversary year.
