Korean Air completes 'Smart Cargo Terminal' at Incheon

Dhaka: Korean Air has completed upgrading its cargo terminal at Incheon International Airport, introducing a fully integrated "Smart Terminal" with automated logistics systems.
A release from the airline said the project ran from June 2025 to September 2026, while cargo operations continued without interruption during the work.
The upgrade centers on Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and new Elevating Transfer Vehicles (ETVs). The bypass infrastructure was expanded from a single line to dual automated transfer lines linked with the new ETVs.
As a result, the terminal's hourly Unit Load Device (ULD) processing capacity rose from 18 to 30 units. The airline projects its overall cargo handling capacity will grow by more than 25 percent.
Korean Air is also expanding specialized facilities to handle high-yield special cargo.
The automation of heavy equipment is expected to reduce manual handling touchpoints. The airline said infrastructure upgrades have also improved the working environment for staff.
Following the Incheon project, Korean Air is modernizing its cargo terminal at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, with completion targeted for next year.
A representative of the airline said the renovation is an essential step to respond proactively to the rapidly changing global logistics environment through equipment upgrades and smart technology integration.
Korean Air expects the infrastructure upgrade, along with digital integrations, expanded sustainability initiatives, and next-generation fleet orders, would further strengthen its competitiveness in the global air cargo market.
