Biman to add 11 more Boeing aircraft under expanded fleet plan

Dhaka: Biman Bangladesh Airlines is preparing to expand its Boeing order by another 11 aircraft, with a supplementary agreement expected to be signed in New York on September 23, according to reports.

Biman Chairman Rumee A Hossain is expected to sign the agreement during the UN General Assembly week, where he is accompanying the prime minister. The signing is scheduled to take place at a New York hotel, although the Boeing executive representing the US aircraft maker has not yet been identified.

Key terms of the additional purchase, including aircraft types, prices, financing and delivery dates, were not immediately available.

The new agreement would bring Biman’s planned Boeing acquisition to 25 aircraft. In April, the airline signed a roughly $3.7 billion deal for 14 Boeing jets, with deliveries scheduled to start in 2031. That order includes eight 787-10 Dreamliners, two 787-9s and four 737 MAX 8s.

The latest move is part of Biman’s broader fleet modernization effort, which also involves Airbus. A government-appointed technical committee is reviewing a proposal for 10 Airbus aircraft—four A350-900s and six A321neos.

Biman has been pursuing the expansion since the current government took office, seeking to increase and modernize its aircraft fleet.
