Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) has become the first bank in Bangladesh to establish connectivity through Starlink satellite communication, marking a major milestone in the nation’s financial technology landscape. The official launch ceremony was held today, September 9, 2025, at EBL’s head office in Dhaka. Present at the event were Ahmed Shaheen, Additional Managing Director; Osman Ershad Faiz, AMD and Chief Operating Officer; Zahidul Haque, Chief Technology Officer of EBL; Sharful Alam, Chief Executive Officer of Felicity IDC (Starlink Service Provider in Bangladesh); along with other senior officials.
Dhaka, September 9, 2025: Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) has made history by becoming the first bank in Bangladesh to establish connectivity through Starlink satellite communication, ushering in a new era of innovation, resilience, and efficiency in the nation’s financial technology landscape.
The official launch ceremony was held today at the bank’s head office in Dhaka, marking a strategic collaboration between EBL and Starlink, the global satellite internet service provider by SpaceX.
The event was attended by Ahmed Shaheen, Additional Managing Director; Osman Ershad Faiz, Additional Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer; Zahidul Haque, Chief Technology Officer of EBL; and Sharful Alam, Chief Executive Officer of Felicity IDC (Starlink service provider in Bangladesh), alongside senior executives from both organizations.
With this milestone, EBL has reinforced its position as a leader in banking innovation, committed to harnessing advanced technologies to create a more secure, reliable, and inclusive financial system in Bangladesh.
