Boeing offers narrow-body aircraft as Bangladesh explores leasing options

Dhaka: Boeing has expressed interest in providing narrow-body aircraft to Biman Bangladesh Airlines on lease as the government moves to address growing aviation demand.
The development came during a courtesy meeting between Boeing Vice President Paul Righi and officials of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism in Dhaka on Monday, April 6.
The meeting was attended by Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam and State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat.
According to a press release, the discussions focused on various aspects of potential agreements between Boeing and Biman during Bangladesh’s interim government, alongside exploring options to lease aircraft to meet the country’s current aviation needs.
During the meeting, Boeing showed particular interest in providing narrow-body aircraft, especially from its Boeing 737 series, on a leasing basis. These aircraft are widely used for short- to medium-haul routes and are considered suitable for expanding regional connectivity.
The minister emphasized the need to move forward with the leasing process as quickly as possible to strengthen the country’s aviation capacity.
Officials said the initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance fleet availability and improve operational efficiency in Bangladesh’s aviation sector amid rising passenger demand.
