Pilot strike forces Lufthansa to cancel 800 flights

Lufthansa has canceled 800 flights scheduled for Friday (Sept 2) at its Munich and Frankfurt hubs due to a one-day strike by pilots union Vereinigung Cockpit.
 Affected customers will be informed Thursday and rebooked if possible, the carrier said. The cancellations don't extend to Eurowings flights. 
Lufthansa estimates that 130,000 customers will be impacted by the day-long labor action. 
 "Lufthansa is working with joint forces to return its flight operations to a normal status as quickly as possible. Nevertheless, the effects of the strike may still lead to individual flight cancellations or delays this Saturday and Sunday," the carrier said.
