Kathmandu : After remaining closed for two days due to anti-government protests, Nepal's capital Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) reopened.

The country's main international airport resumed operations on September 10, Nepal's Civil Aviation Authority announced.

According to reports, TIA officially reopened after two days of closure caused by tense conditions in the Kathmandu Valley.

Earlier, Nepal's ruling government imposed a ban on 26 social media platforms. The decision was taken after these platforms failed to register with the authorities within the government-set deadline. In protest against the ban, thousands of demonstrators took to the streets on September 8.

What began as a movement led by the younger generation demanding the lifting of the social media ban and action against corruption quickly escalated into a broader anti-government uprising. Amid widespread violence across the country, protesters attacked the parliament building, the Supreme Court, and the residences of the Prime Minister and President.

As the situation worsened, Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli submitted his resignation to President Ramchandra Paudel on September 9. In his resignation letter, he wrote that he had decided to step down "to facilitate an easier resolution to the crisis and to pave the way for a constitutional political solution."

In the evening, violent protests caused the security situation in Nepal to deteriorate further.

Subsequently, all airports in the country were closed, with army troops deployed at TIA as an additional security measure.
