PM rolls out Covid-19 vaccinations, five govt employees to receive first

Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on January 27 virtually inaugurated the country's pilot Covid-19 vaccination programme at Kurmitola General Hospital.
Five government employees will receive the Covid-19 vaccine at the inaugural programme. The event started at 3:30 pm where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina joined virtually.
The five vaccine recipients are -- Runu Veronica Costa, a senior nurse of KGH; Dr. Ahmed Lutful Moben, a doctor of KGH; Prof Dr. Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the health directorate; Md Didarul Alam, the traffic police of Motijheel Zone; and Brigadier General M Imran Hamid of Bangladesh Army.
Director Brigadier General Jamil Ahmed of the hospital confirmed this to the journalists.
Of the South Asian countries, Bangladesh at the moment has the highest number of vaccines at hand -- 70 lac doses -- after India.
Covid-19 has already claimed more than 8,000 lives in the country and over 2.14 million in the world.
