Saidpur : Efforts are underway to transform Saidpur Airport a regional hub, said Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Chairman Air Vice Marshal Mohammad Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan.

A masterplan regarding the development of the airport has been sent to the Ministry of Finance.

CAAB Chairman informed the matter during a press conference following his visit to the airport on September 12.

Bhuiyan visited the airport premise to check on several projects currently underway at the airport, aimed at making it international.

All concerned parties are working diligently to successfully make the airport international, he said.

Once the airport becomes international, airlines of Bhutan, Nepal and India will get the opportunity to operate flight services to and from the airport, he mentioned.

The runway is being expanded to make the airport dynamic. As part of the masterplan, a new runway is being constructed beside the current one at the airport, according to CAAB Chairman.

For this purpose, soon land acquisition works will begin.

"Together, we will solve any problem that arises," he claimed.

Furthermore, to increase cargo transport activities to and from the airport, initiatives to facilitate freighters will be taken, further mentioned the CAAB Chairman.

Other high officials of CAAB were also present on the occasion.
