BERC cuts jet fuel prices for third time in a month

Dhaka: The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced jet fuel prices for the third time in just over a month, continuing a series of cuts aimed at aligning domestic rates with declining international fuel prices.
Under the latest revision, effective from June 7, the price of Jet A-1 fuel for domestic flights has been lowered to BDT 150.21 per liter, including duty and VAT, from BDT 165.88 per liter set on May 23. The latest adjustment amounts to a reduction of BDT 15.67 per liter, or about 9.4%.
For international flights operated by both local and foreign airlines, the price has been revised downward to USD 0.9808 per litre from USD 1.0823 per litre, excluding duty and VAT, reflecting a decrease of USD 0.1015 per litre.
In a press release issued on June 7, BERC said the revised prices were calculated based on the average Platts benchmark published between May 22 and June 4, along with changes in diesel prices, exchange rate fluctuations, and transportation costs.
The latest cut follows a significant reduction announced on May 23, when the domestic Jet A-1 price was lowered by BDT 39.57 per liter from BDT 205.45 to BDT 165.88.
Earlier, on May 7, the regulator had also reduced aviation fuel prices by BDT 22.35 per liter.
With the latest adjustment, domestic jet fuel prices have fallen by BDT 55.24 per liter since May 23 and by more than BDT 77 per liter since early May, offering potential relief to airlines grappling with operational costs.
