Bangladesh, IOM Qatar hold talks on migrant welfare


Dhaka: Bangladesh Ambassador to Qatar Hazrat Ali Khan held a meeting with International Organization for Migration (IOM) Qatar Chief of Mission Firas Budeiri at the UN House in Doha on June 24, focusing on migrant welfare, safe migration, and humanitarian cooperation.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on a range of issues of mutual interest, including the Rohingya humanitarian situation, the well-being of Bangladeshi migrant workers in Qatar, and measures to promote safe and orderly migration, said a release from the embassy.
Ambassador Hazrat Ali Khan expressed Bangladesh's appreciation for IOM's continued support for Bangladeshi nationals in Qatar and its humanitarian contributions in Bangladesh, particularly in addressing migration-related challenges.
The discussions also underscored the importance of continued cooperation between Bangladesh and IOM in safeguarding migrant workers' rights, enhancing migration governance, and strengthening support services for expatriate communities.
Officials from both sides attended the meeting. The Bangladesh delegation included Deputy Chief of Mission Md. Waliur Rahman, Counsellor (Labour) Mohammad Mashhudul Kabir, and Counsellor (Political) and Head of Chancery Mohammad Barikul Islam.
The IOM delegation comprised Migration Management Officer Roula Hamati and Project Development Officer Mushfig Emin.
