Emirates retrofit programme reaches 100-aircraft milestone

Dubai: Emirates has completed the refurbishment of 100 aircraft under its landmark retrofit programme—the largest known fleet modernization initiative undertaken by any airline globally.
Since the programme began in November 2022, 47 Airbus A380s and 53 Boeing 777s have undergone comprehensive nose-to-tail upgrades at Emirates Engineering in Dubai. By December 2026, another 20 aircraft will be retrofitted, taking the airline well beyond the halfway mark of its US$5 billion investment to deliver a consistently enhanced onboard experience.
Over 44 months, more than 400 engineers and technicians have dedicated 4.4 million man-hours to transform the aircraft. Each retrofit includes the installation of Emirates’ award-winning Premium Economy cabin, with more than 3,800 seats fitted across the fleet, expanding access to the popular product on more routes.

On average, Emirates Engineering has upgraded 28 aircraft annually. Every retrofit involves completely dismantling the cabin interiors, refurbishing all classes using more than 4,000 parts for each A380 and 2,500 parts for each Boeing 777, before meticulously reassembling the aircraft to the highest standards.
Reflecting Emirates’ commitment to sustainability, thousands of kilograms of premium leather, fabrics and other materials removed during the retrofits are being upcycled into limited-edition luggage and accessories under the ‘Aircrafted by Emirates’ collection. In addition, more than 4,000 backpacks made from repurposed Economy Class seat fabric have been distributed to children in 11 countries, giving retired materials a meaningful second life while supporting communities.
