Bangladesh mission issues special instructions for citizens visiting Kolkata

Dhaka: The Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata has issued special instructions for Bangladeshi citizens planning to visit the Indian city for medical treatment or other purposes, following the situation that emerged after an incident in Kolkata on August 19.

In a notice issued on September 3, the mission urged Bangladeshis to take necessary precautions and follow the instructions to avoid difficulties during their stay in Kolkata.

The mission advised travelers to confirm their hotel bookings before arriving in Kolkata and to properly check the hotel's current operations, room availability, and location before beginning their journey.

For patients travelling to Kolkata for medical treatment, the mission specifically asked attendants accompanying patients to secure hotel accommodation in advance. They were also advised to verify the hotel's capacity, booking availability, distance from the hospital, and other necessary facilities before travelling to Kolkata.

The Deputy High Commission said that following a recent incident in Kolkata, the local administration had temporarily closed some residential hotels and restaurants in areas considered vulnerable to accidents/incidents.

Local authorities have indicated that the affected hotels may take some time to reopen after complying with safety and other legal requirements, the notice said.

Against this backdrop, the Bangladesh mission particularly urged Bangladeshis to confirm hotel accommodation before travelling to Kolkata to avoid problems related to accommodation after arrival.
