EBL partners with Chokher Sheba Hospital to support quality eye care for underprivileged communities


Dhaka, July 23, 2026: Eastern Bank PLC. (EBL) has partnered with Chokher Sheba Hospital Ltd. to expand access to quality eye care for underprivileged communities. The initiative will support advanced treatment with a paricular focus on diabetic eye diseases, retinal disorders, and precision eye surgery.
Hassan O. Rashid, Managing Director of Eastern Bank PLC (EBL), handed over a cheque worth Taka 7.5 million to Brig. Gen. Prof. Nazrul Islam, Director of Chokher Sheba Hospital Ltd., following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at EBL's Head Office in Dhaka.
Through this partnership, Chokher Sheba Hospital will continue providing consultations, treatment and eye surgeries to underprivileged and vulnerable patients at subsidized costs, helping improve access to quality eye care across Bangladesh.
Speaking on the occasion, Brig. Gen. Prof. Nazrul Islam said, “Restoring sight is more than a medical intervention—it restores dignity, independence and hope. We are grateful for Eastern Bank PLC.’s support, which will strengthen our ophthalmology services and enable us to make quality eye care more accessible and affordable for those who need it most.”

The ceremony was attended by senior representatives from both the organizations. Chokher Sheba Hospital was represented by Dr. Md. Mominul Islam, Chairman; Dr. Muntassir, Consultant; and Ayatul Ahammed, IT and Marketing Officer. Representing EBL were Ahmed Shaheen, Additional Managing Director; Ziaul Karim, Head of Brand, Marketing and Communications; Maj Md. Abdus Salam, psc, (Retd), Head of Administration; Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, FCS, Company Secretary; Md. Maskur Reza, FCA, Head of Business Information Systems; Major Arif Chowdhury (retd.), Head of Cash Management among others.
