Minister urges tourism board to assess damage, tourist safety after Inani incident

The minister also ordered
the BTB to hold an urgent meeting with local administration, law enforcement
agencies and tourism industry stakeholders to ensure the safety of tourists at
destinations across the country.
In a press release issued
on October 17, the ministry said the meeting would identify necessary measures
to improve tourist safety, with recommendations to be implemented quickly.
The BTB has also been
instructed to arrange special training on fire safety and emergency rescue for
employees of tourist destinations, with support from the Fire Service and Civil
Defense, to prevent similar accidents in the future.
The directives came after
a devastating fire at TupTup Resort and Restaurant in Patuartek, along the
Inani Marine Drive in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, that caused casualties.
Expressing deep sorrow
over the loss of lives, the minister conveyed his condolences to the bereaved
families and wished a speedy recovery for those injured.
He also called on the
relevant authorities to take effective steps to locate missing people and
determine the actual cause of the fire.
The minister stressed the
need for coordinated rescue operations and support for those affected by the
tragedy.
