New Thai restaurant Skyfall: where city quiets, sky begins

Dhaka has been growing fast as a metropolis for the last few years. Along withits horizontal expansion, the fast-spreading high-rises are indicators of its vertical expansiontoo. The neighbourhoods of the city are getting increasingly constricted by high-rises, most of which are for residential purposes. Restaurants, hotels, and service apartments are also housed in many of these. Thus, restaurants at top floors of high rises have become quite popular in recent times.
Skyfall is the newest addition in this regard. Opened only a few months back, this place is a wonderful one on the tenth floor of a high-rise complex. This is aThai restaurant that serves delicious Thai food amidst a beautiful backdrop. The menu features an array of Thai dishes, numbering in more than a hundred items.
Appetizers are the first in any menu and this is no exception. There are more than a dozen appetizers to choose from-the popular ones being Butter Fried Prawn, Chicken Satay, Deep fried Morning Glory etc.
A variety of rice and noodles preparations make up the main course segment. Tom Yum Fried Rice and Pineapple Fried Rice are two of the favorites among the guests. These can be coupled with Stir Fried Beef with Ginger, Premium Beef Sirloin with Thai Herbs, Penang Curry with Chicken, Crab with Curry Paste, Premium Duck with Holy Basil Leaf, or Lamb Shank Red Curry-to name a few from their huge spread.
Salads and soups are a must for any cuisine, more so for a Thai one. Crispy Fried Squid with Mango Salad, Sirloin Grilled Beef Nam Tok Salad, Coconut Milk Soup, and, of course, a few combinations of the global favorite Tom Yum Soup-these are quite popular.
Fish is an integral part of any Thai meal and thus Skyfall menu is rich with plenty of fish and seafood dishes. There are crabs, pomfrets, king prawns, squids, seabass, snappers, and lobsters-all the popular aquatic edibles. These are done in a variety of preparations, ranging from steamed to deep fried to grilled, served with vegetables or different sauces as accompaniments. To end the meal on a sweet note, one can choose from all-time favorites like Mango with Sticky Rice and Coconut Ice cream.

Skyfall also has a coffee corner in the same premises. Here, one can unwind with a cup of coffee paired with cookies, cakes and brownies. Guests can choose from Hot Coffee (Hazelnut Latte, Mocha, Cappuccino etc.), iced version of the hot ones, Frappes(peach, kiwi, strawberry etc.) andMocktailswhich come in different fruity flavors likepassion melon, raspberry, and kiwi, among others.
Skyfall is open from noon till midnight. It is on floor 10 at SKS Tower in the capital's Mohakhali area. It can accommodate more than two hundred guests as it has both indoor and outdoor seatings. The outdoor arrangement is under the open sky, fringed with pretty plants, that surely elevates the aesthetics of the place.
The main restaurant is indoors, skirted by the outdoor segment. Huge wall to wall glass windows open to the panoramic view of the city skyline. On a clear sunny day or a rainy day-the breathtaking view is simply a feast for the eyes and the soul! It is amazing to say the least.
A beautiful addition to this visual treat is the interior which is done in muted shades of beige and green with strokes of silver and golden in the décor. Lots of greenery, though not natural but very beautiful, adds a refreshing touch to the entire place.
The silver mesh lights hanging from the ceiling deserves a special mention. So does their rain-water-harvesting program. Skyfall is possibly the only restaurant in the city till now, which has chalked up this unique and importantinitiative to store, re-use and utilize the seasonal downpours that floods and drowns the city during the monsoon. This enables them to use the rainwater for necessities like gardening, cooling the water plants of the entire premise, and to cool down the restaurant's roof-which becomes extremely hot during the scorching summer. They are surely the trailblazers in this regard and deserve a lot of accolades for this recycle agenda that makes their venture a truly remarkable one.
Stepping into such a place for a meal or a coffee is a treat for both the mind and the body-as this is the place, which is aptly termed by them-where the city quiets and the sky begins!
