Govt. planning kids' zone at Sylhet Airport for migrant families

Dhaka: The government is planning to establish a dedicated Kids' Zone at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet as part of broader efforts to improve passenger services for migrant workers and their families.
The announcement came from Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury during a visit to the airport on June 24, where he reviewed ongoing services and facilities for expatriate Bangladeshis.
The minister said the initiative is being considered in recognition of the large number of migrant workers and their family members who regularly use the airport.
Alongside the Kids' Zone, the government is also working to strengthen security measures, improve support services for elderly and sick passengers, and ensure safer transportation for travelers arriving on late-night flights.
"The aim is to make the airport experience more comfortable and passenger-friendly, particularly for expatriates and their families," Ariful said.
According to the minister, the proposed Kids' Zone will provide a dedicated space for children at the airport, helping families manage waiting times more comfortably while traveling.
The initiative is expected to be implemented jointly by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment.
During the visit, Ariful also highlighted efforts to improve luggage handling, assistance services, and primary healthcare support for elderly, sick, and special-needs passengers.
He said authorities are coordinating with relevant agencies to ensure expatriates do not face harassment or unnecessary difficulties at the airport.
