Minister orders hassle-free cargo operations, urgent repair of Biman aircraft

Dhaka: Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afrozza Khanam on Sunday, April 5, directed officials to ensure hassle-free cargo management and expedite maintenance of a grounded Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft during a surprise inspection at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
During her visit, the minister inspected the airport’s cargo terminal operations and instructed authorities to ensure quick and harassment-free clearance of goods while strictly following regulations. She emphasized that under the current government, cargo handling would be made fully transparent and free from irregularities, warning of a strict “zero tolerance” stance against corruption.
The minister later visited the hangar complex of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, where she reviewed the status of flight BG 202, a Boeing 787-9 aircraft that has been grounded due to a technical fault. She directed engineers to complete maintenance of the aircraft’s central hydraulic system as quickly as possible to return it to service.
She also inspected the aircraft’s cabin and cockpit, observing the functionality of onboard systems and equipment.
Officials said the aircraft had been grounded at Osmani International Airport after a fault was detected in the isolator of its central hydraulic system. Maintenance work is currently underway.
Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, Air Vice Marshal Md. Mostafa Mahmood Siddiq, along with senior officials from CAAB and Biman Bangladesh Airlines, were present during the inspection.
