Dhaka: Aviation services company dnata has appointed Nabil Sultan, the former head of Emirates SkyCargo, as its new chief executive officer.

Sultan brings extensive cargo expertise, having served as Divisional Senior Vice President for Emirates SkyCargo from 2013 to 2024 before transitioning to the role of Executive Vice President for Passenger Sales and Country Management at Emirates on March 1, 2024.

He has been part of the Emirates Group, which also owns dnata, for over 33 years, having joined in 1990. Among his earlier roles, he served as Divisional Senior Vice President for Revenue Optimization and Distribution from 2009.

The new CEO succeeds Steven Allen, who is departing after slightly over five years in the role.

Allen, however, is yet to announce his plans after leaving dnata. He also held multiple senior management roles at the Emirates Group for over 16 years, since joining in 2009. Prior to that, Allen spent 16 years at British Airways.

In the last financial year, dnata's cargo handling revenue rose 10% year-on-year to AED 3.4 billion, with cargo volumes climbing 2.1% to 3.2 million tons.

The revenue growth was attributed to pricing and aircraft mix optimization, the acquisition of air cargo trucking specialist Wymap Group, and strong e-commerce momentum in the UAE and the UK.

Meanwhile, new contracts and increased flight activity of airline customers boosted cargo volumes. A fully automated cargo facility in Amsterdam, opened during the period, introduced an additional capacity of 600,000 tons.
