Dhaka: Bangladesh is not planning to impose a fresh ban on international flights with any country amid the spread of the new coronavirus strain, said the Chairman of the country’s Civil Aviation Authority.
Air Vice-Marshal M Mafidur Rahman further added, considering the country's economic condition, measures would be taken to reduce the risk of further infection without shutting down air connections, according to reports.
"Some countries have suspended flights with the UK for their own benefits. They can afford it, and will not face problems if the connectivity is cut off. However, we have to think about our economic condition. Given the current situation, I do not think it is time to stop the flights," Mafidur Rahman claimed.
Following the latest developments, over 30 countries have halted flights with the United Kingdom.
The new Covid-19 variant, a highly infectious variant of the coronavirus that has emerged in the UK, has been identified in Denmark, the Netherlands and as far as Australia, World Health Organisation (WHO) Covid-19 technical lead Maria Van Kerkhove said on December 20.
