SpiceJet aircraft catches fire at IGI Airport

New Delhi : A SpiceJet aircraft on July 25 caught fire at at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport during engine maintenance work. The aircraft and maintenance personnel are safe, said the airline spokesperson.
According to the details, an ATR aircraft of the private airline was under maintenance when the engineers spotted fire on one of the engines. Soon the fire brigade was called in to douse the flames.
A passenger on an aircraft on the taxiway caught the raging fire on camera, which showed thick smoke emanating from the aircraft parked at a distance.
An official at the airport said that around 8 pm, the fire was reported in one of the engines of the grounded aircraft, and later the fire was extinguished.
As per the airline's website, it has Q400s that can accommodate 78 passengers and 90 passengers.
The fire caught on the day the aviation regulator DGCA said it has taken off SpiceJet from its enhanced surveillance regime. Now, the regulator is now investigating the fire.
