Hatirjheel honored at Asian Townscape Awards in Hong Kong

Dhaka: The Hatirjheel Integrated Development Project of Capital Development Authority (RAJUK) won an award in the "Lake and Reservoir Development" category of Asian Townscape Awards 2025 held in Hong Kong on November 27.

RAJUK Chairman Engineer Md Riazul Islam accepted the award on behalf of Bangladesh from Patrick Lau Sau Shing, Chairman of Asian Habitat Society.

Architect Iqbal Habib, Director of Vhitthi Sthapatibrinda Ltd (the architectural firm that designed the Hatirjheel project), and Architect Md Istiak Zahir were also present on the occasion.

This year's 'Asian Townscape Awards' was jointly organized by UN-Habitat Asia-Pacific Office (Fukuoka), Asian Habitat Society, Fukuoka Asian Urban Research Center, and Asian Townscape Design Society.

The 11 best projects from 7 countries were awarded from a total of 72 projects based on urban aesthetics, public life, environmentally friendly development, and sustainable urban systems worldwide.

Bangladesh's Hatirjheel project received recognition for its unique technology, innovative design, and successful implementation.

It may be mentioned here that this is Dhaka's first international 'Townscape' award. Although Bangladesh has received this award thrice before, this is the first time Dhaka city has been honored at Asian Townscape Awards.
