CMA CGM expands into aircraft maintenance with Crystal Aero

Dhaka: French shipping and logistics giant CMA CGM Group has signed a preliminary agreement to acquire Crystal Aero Solutions, a Paris-based company specializing in aircraft maintenance for cargo and passenger aircraft.
Crystal Aero Solutions operates primarily out of Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, with an additional presence in Brussels and Liège. The company provides line maintenance and light maintenance services, which are critical to ensuring aircraft operational availability.
Beyond its European bases, the company deploys teams for engine support operations in Africa and Asia. Crystal Aero Solutions has been a maintenance partner of CMA CGM Air Cargo since 2024, already contributing to the upkeep of its fleet.
The acquisition will enable CMA CGM to draw on in-house maintenance expertise to support its air cargo growth, strengthen fleet availability, and reinforce its presence across key European platforms. The deal is subject to the completion of legally required employee information and consultation processes.
Crystal Aero Solutions will retain its status as an independent maintenance services provider, continuing to serve airlines and third-party operators. Its current management team will stay in place.
Damien Mazaudier, Senior Vice President of Air Division at CMA CGM Group, said the transaction "marks a new milestone in the development of our air freight activities," adding that the group looks forward to relying on Crystal Aero's teams across strategic platforms while preserving its independence as a provider.
CMA CGM Air Cargo was launched in March 2021 as part of the group's broader strategy to offer integrated sea, land, air, and logistics solutions. The division currently operates eight freighter aircraft: five Boeing 777Fs, one Airbus A330F, and two Boeing 747Fs.
The fleet is set to expand further from 2027, with eight Airbus A350Fs on order. Operations run from strategic hubs in France, the United States, and Belgium.
