Govt. plans to develop Bogura into major aviation hub: minister

Dhaka: The government has taken an initiative to transform Bogura into one of the country’s major aviation hubs by utilizing the economic and strategic potential of the northern region, said Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam on May 7.
The minister made the remarks while visiting Bogura Airport in person at around 10:30am by a special helicopter of the Bangladesh Air Force.
State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat and State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam also joined the inspection.
Speaking during the visit, Minister Afroza Khanam said the government, under the direction of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has initiated plans to develop Bogura as a key aviation hub for the northern region.
“People of Bogura are truly fortunate. The journey of this major aviation development plan of the ministry is beginning from Bogura,” she said.
State Minister Rashiduzzaman Millat said the government is planning to construct an international-standard airport in Bogura along with a 10,500-foot runway capable of handling both domestic and international aircraft operations.
He added that cargo facilities would also be established to support the transportation and export of agricultural and industrial products from the northern region.
As part of the broader expansion plan, the government is also considering setting up a pilot training academy and cargo facilities at Bogura Airport to open new opportunities in connectivity, trade, and aviation in northern Bangladesh.
Among others present during the visit were Chief of Air Staff of the Bangladesh Air Force Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Secretary Fahmida Akhtar, and senior officials of the ministry and the airport.
