Dhaka : The government has implemented several programmes including 12 development projects through Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation to stimulate the development of the country's tourism sector.
State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali said this while addressing a celebratory programme of BPC titled 'Poth Cholar 50' (50 years of operations) at its head office in the capital on January 1.
"The BPC has undertaken 12 projects worth BDT 3.35 billion, which are now being implemented," said the state minister.
He mentioned, BPC has already implemented 20 development projects worth BDT 2.84 billion in the last 12 years.
"Many changes have taken place at BPC with the time for its operations and service delivery," added Mahbub Ali.
BPC, which has stepped foot in its 50th year of operations, organised the discussion programme along with a logo unveiling session to celebrate the milestone event.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism (MoCAT) RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury attended the programme as the guest of honour.
MoCAT Secretary Md Mokammel Hossain and Chief Executive Officer of Bangladesh Tourism Board Jabed Ahmed were also present as the special guests.
Speaking on the occasion, the state minister claimed BPC has made significant contributions to improve the local tourist attractions including Cox's Bazar, the main tourist destination of the country.
The corporation runs the National Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (NHTTI) to impart hands-on training to those involved in the tourism industry, the state minister said, adding that the centre is creating about 1,600 skilled human resources every year.
"Since its beginning, the organisation has created over 60,000 skilled human resources, who have been working at home and abroad with reputation," noted Mahbub Ali.
A rally was held to celebrate the occasion as well.
